The passing of time is inexorable and overwhelming. Each lived instant is unique and unrepeatable. With my piece Sands of Time, I wanted to depict this unstoppable characteristic of the clock. I tried to convey the idea of time as the most valuable resource we have through its notes. The title refers to the ancient hourglasses, where the flow of each grain of sand reminds us of an instant that we will never get back.
One passing minute is simply irretrievable. Forgetting this fact distracts us from realizing the meaning of life and our own selves, by not considering our journey through it as temporal. This usually leads to wasting your life, to unhappiness and a lack of purpose. Have you asked yourself: What is your purpose? What would you like to do with your time? Answering these questions is essential in order to enrich the running of your clock with experiences as valuable as the time itself. Time has been given to us, no one knows how much of it is left; but we do know that it is non-transferable, that it does not allow extensions and that it always continues to run.
That's how valuable time is, much more than money. If at some point in our lives we lose money, we will always have the opportunity to get it back; however, there is no way of making up for lost time. When life ends, there is no possession that can buy us a new one. Remembering the limited nature of time both underlines its value and provides a way to decide what to do with it wisely. Every moment that passes is an opportunity to make the most of our time. Regardless of our background, possessions or past, today's day gives us 24 hours; what we do with each minute will determine our present and future. A truly rich person is one who has the time to live the life he or she wants to live. It's up to you.
Our life is not a rehearsal and the passing of time is a reality independent of our decisions. Each grain that descends in the hourglass adds to the time that has already passed and subtracts from the time available. What will we do with what we have left?
Managing Time
I believe that time should be treated as a treasure in our custody; our most precious possession. Knowing how to manage it is indispensable. If you notice that time is moving and you are not, then it's time to rethink your approach, your habits and discipline. Clarify what your priorities are, what makes a difference in your life, what has real meaning to you. Once you identify it, invest your time in it. We can always be a better version of ourselves by dedicating time to a purpose that really fulfils us, makes us grow and brings us joy. In this way, I guarantee that the passage of time will be free of regret and sorrow, and will become a succession of valuable experiences that will result in a life well lived and fulfilled.
Each of us has the capacity to leave a mark that outlasts our own existence. This is possible when we forge a life which serves as a testimony of change, self-improvement, well-established values, good attitude and service to others. We must help to understand the power of time and the great opportunity it represents. This is a valuable message, especially for the next generations, who will be able to change their perception of life and therefore avoid distractions and time thieves. We can make a difference by taking action on what is meaningful to us and can positively impact others. You have in your hands the unique gift of time. Cherish it, enjoy it and make it flourish.
What an extraordinary way to spend our time leaving an indelible mark! Teaching, learning and improving every day. Let's live today as if it were the last day, and let the passage of time be our faithful companion in building the life we desire. Sands of Time invites us to reflect and take action on our future. It is we who are responsible for turning our treasure into fertile ground that thrives and adds value to our lives, our environment and future generations.
